Language:
The language of the conference is English which is widely
spoken in Cyprus. The official languages of the Republic
are Greek and Turkish.
Car Driving:
Traffic in Cyprus moves on the
left hand-side of the road and NOT on the right.
Self-drive cars can be hired at reasonable prices all over
Cyprus.
Food and
Drink: Restaurants can satisfy all demands. Try the
local dishes: Cyprus mezes
(collection of cold and hot appetizers served in small dishes),
Kleftiko (lamb baked slowly
in sealed pots), Afelia (fried
pork pieces with coriander), Kebab
(small pieces of roasted pork or lamb meat served usually
in a pitta bread), Moussaka
etc. Local wines are highly recommended.
Currency: The local currency is the Euro which is divided into 100 cents (1 Euro = 1.5 $).
Banking
hours: May to August: Monday
- Friday 08:00 - 13:00. Automated Teller Machines (ATMs)
can be found outside most branches of banks.
Credit Cards: All major credit cards are accepted widely, but not everywhere.
Hotels, large shops and restaurants normally accept credit
cards and traveller's checks.
Electric
Current – Voltage: The supply in Cyprus is
240 volts, a.c. 50Hz. Sockets are usually 13 amp, square-pin
in most buildings. Many hotels provide adaptors upon request
from the reception.

Pharmacies & Drug Stores stay
open during shopping hours.
Cyprus Souvenirs: Handicrafts such as ceramics,
wood carving, silver and copper products, and hand
made Embroidery (the most popular are known as “Lefkaritika”)
are some of the choices. Visit the Cyprus Handicraft Center a non-profit organization which runs shops in all major
cities.
Weather
(April – May): Pleasantly warm days. Temperatures
may fall a bit at night. Medium-weight and summer apparel.
